Varano Lake, located on the northern coast of the Gargano promontory, is the largest coastal basin in southern Italy. The water surface is separated from the Adriatic Sea by a sandy dune known as Isola, approximately ten kilometers long. The image documents a mooring created through the arrangement of stone blocks, used for docking traditional flat-bottomed fishing boats. In the background, the profile of the Gargano hills is visible during the fading sunlight. The site preserves traces of human activities related to lagoon fishing, a practice documented in the area since medieval times, which still defines the economy and hydrogeological layout of the surrounding territory.
