Mola di Bari from above: aerial photo gallery

Italy Apulia Mola di Bari

An aerial photo gallery of Mola di Bari, exploring the town and its coastal setting in Puglia, on the Adriatic Sea south-east of Bari. The old town lies close to the harbour and the Angevin castle, with newer neighbourhoods extending inland towards the farmland. Refounded by Charles I of Anjou in 1277, Mola retains in its castle a record of changing coastal defences from the Middle Ages to the early modern period. The Church of San Nicola, rebuilt in the sixteenth century, and Piazza XX Settembre are further landmarks of the town centre. The sea has shaped Mola's history and livelihoods. Fishing boats and leisure boats share the harbour, while the Lungomare Dalmazia promenade follows the edge of the town. From above, the pattern of rooftops and streets reveals the connections between the historic centre, the coast and the surrounding agricultural landscape.
