The photograph shows Torre Calderina from the east, with the drone flying low above the rocky shore and the camera facing west, where the sun is about to touch the horizon. Torre Calderina is partly silhouetted against the evening sky, with the sea in the foreground on the right and, on the left, the protected area's coastal landscape, crossed by a path and dotted with palm trees and dry-stone walls. The angle brings out the shape of the tower: the battered base, the string course separating it from the upper section, the row of corbels below the top floor and the small masonry staircase set against the landward side. On the seaward side the building rests directly on the rock, washed by the waves. It is one of the sixteenth-century watchtowers of the Adriatic coast of Apulia, built to signal the approach of enemy ships to the neighbouring towers and to the town. Late October, a few minutes before sunset: scattered clouds lit from below cross the sky and ripples mark the sea along the shore.
