A dirt sheep trail winds through the Alta Murgia landscape on Monte Caccia, in the territory of Spinazzola in Puglia. On both sides of the white road stand the ruins of farmhouses built during the De Gasperi-Segni agrarian reform of the 1950s, an ambitious project aimed at redistributing land to peasants in Southern Italy. These concrete and stone structures, now abandoned and in ruins, bear witness to an era of great hopes and subsequent disappointments. The intense green of the spring pastures contrasts with the gray of the dilapidated buildings, while the clear sky of the Apulian hinterland dominates the scene. The sheep trail, an ancient transhumance route used for centuries by shepherds, crosses this landscape of historical memory.
