The Gargano coastline, located between Vieste and Mattinata, features geological formations resulting from karstic and marine erosion processes. The Grotta Campana Piccola is a natural cave carved into white limestone, characterized by a domed vault resembling a bell shape. The namesake rock emerges from the waters in front of the cave, separated from the cliff line which is home to dense Aleppo pine vegetation. The geographical context is an integral part of the Gargano National Park, where the continuity of the rocky walls is interrupted by inlets and sea caves originated by the wave motion of the Adriatic Sea. The coastal profile continues northeast towards Vieste, maintaining the alternation between bare rock and Mediterranean scrub.
