The composition presents a view of Palazzo Donn'Anna, a monumental 17th-century architectural work located at the beginning of via Posillipo in Naples. The building was commissioned by Donna Anna Carafa, and the design, in the Neapolitan Baroque style, is attributed to Cosimo Fanzago. Construction, initiated around 1640, remains unfinished since 1648, lending the structure the appearance of a historical ruin. The palace rises directly from the shoreline. In the foreground, the scene is defined by the beach section, with the waters of the Gulf washing up against the structure. The background consists of the marine surface under a daytime sky.
