One of Malta's most iconic images: Valletta buildings with their characteristic gallariji, the enclosed wooden balconies that have become a symbol of Maltese architecture. These balconies, painted in red, green, blue, and other vivid colors, project from limestone facades creating a unique chromatic effect. Probably introduced during Arab domination, gallariji allowed women to observe the street without being seen. The buildings show signs of time and historical vicissitudes, with their irregular facades and different architectural styles overlapping through the centuries. This view from the bastions reveals the urban density of the Maltese capital.
