This close-up shot highlights the details of Casa Batllo's facade: the sinuous wrought iron balconies, the colored ceramic mosaics covering the walls, and the green wooden shutters. The balconies, similar to theatrical masks, are made from a single piece of wrought iron shaped to form what appears to be a skeletal jaw. The facade is a riot of colors fading from ochre to blue, with glass and ceramic inserts shining in the sunlight. Every element was designed by Gaudi to evoke natural forms: sea waves, fish scales, flower petals. The building represents one of the finest examples of Catalan modernism.
