A frontal view of Casa Batllo from Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona's most elegant avenue, shows the building in its entirety. The polychrome facade stands out among the avenue trees, revealing all its characteristic elements: the mask-shaped balconies, the organic windows of the noble floor, the undulating roof resembling a dragon's back, and the turret crowned by a four-armed cross. The building was commissioned by textile industrialist Josep Batllo, who asked Gaudi to completely renovate an existing palace. The result was one of modernism's most iconic works, which still attracts millions of visitors from around the world today.
