Casa Amatller, designed by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch between 1898 and 1900, stands next to Casa Batllo in the so-called Block of Discord on Passeig de Gracia. The facade features a Flemish neo-Gothic style with a characteristic stepped gable decorated with polychrome ceramics. The building was commissioned by chocolatier Antoni Amatller and combines Gothic, Romanesque, and Renaissance elements in an eclecticism typical of Catalan modernism. Wrought iron balconies, windows with trefoil arches, and sculptures of fantastic animals enrich the facade. On the right, Gaudi's Casa Batllo can be glimpsed, creating a comparison between two different interpretations of modernism.
