The photograph shows the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum in its entirety, seen from the large pedestrian square surrounding it. The building, designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry and inaugurated in 1997, features the characteristic organic forms clad in titanium sheets that reflect sunlight creating iridescent effects. A cyclist crosses the square, giving scale to the imposing structure. Visitors stroll admiring the deconstructivist architecture that made the museum a world icon. The Guggenheim Bilbao triggered the so-called Bilbao effect, becoming a model of urban regeneration through architecture.
