The night image shows the monumental Maman sculpture by Franco-American artist Louise Bourgeois, a bronze spider over 9 meters tall standing on the Guggenheim Museum terrace. The work, created in 1999, is the artist's tribute to her mother, a weaver by profession: the spider represents maternal protection, patience and industriousness. The creature's long legs frame the view of the illuminated museum and city. Ground lights create an almost theatrical atmosphere. Maman is one of the most photographed sculptures in Bilbao, becoming a symbol of the city along with the museum that houses it.
