The wide-angle photograph captures the magnificence of the Grand Staircase of the Royal Palace of Madrid, one of the most sumptuous rooms of the Spanish royal residence. The white marble staircase, designed by Sabatini in the 18th century, develops in two symmetrical flights under a vault frescoed by Corrado Giaquinto with allegories of the Triumph of Religion and Spain. The walls are decorated with gilded stuccoes, mirrors and bronze candelabras. Corinthian columns and marble balustrades complete this masterpiece of European Baroque. The staircase leads to the state rooms where official ceremonies of the Spanish Crown are still held.
