The image portrays the majestic southern facade of the Royal Palace of Madrid, official residence of the Spanish royal family used for state ceremonies. The building, constructed between 1738 and 1764 in Italian Baroque style designed by Filippo Juvara and Giovanni Battista Sacchetti, overlooks the Plaza de la Armeria with its imposing mass of white stone and granite. The monumental wrought iron gate delimits access to the square, while tourists and visitors stroll in the space in front. With over 3,000 rooms, the Palacio Real is the largest royal residence in Western Europe.
