The photograph shows one of the most iconic views of Madrid: the Cibeles fountain in the center of the square of the same name. The fountain, created in 1782 by Francisco Gutierrez and Roberto Michel, depicts the Phrygian goddess Cybele on a chariot drawn by two lions. In the background rises the imposing Communications Palace, now home to Madrid City Hall, built in Neo-Gothic and eclectic style between 1907 and 1919. On the left, the Bank of Spain can be glimpsed. Plaza de Cibeles represents one of the main urban nodes of the capital, meeting point between Paseo del Prado, Calle de Alcala and Paseo de Recoletos.
