The photograph portrays the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse in its spectacular position on the cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The white cylindrical tower, 30 meters high, stands next to the service buildings on the summit of the rocky promontory. Atlantic waves crash at the base of the limestone cliffs, creating white foam that contrasts with the blue-green waters. The cloudy sky, typical of Cantabria's oceanic climate, adds drama to the landscape. The lighthouse, built in 1839 and modernized over the years, today also houses a contemporary art center. Cabo Mayor represents the northernmost point of the Santander peninsula.
