A striking perspective of the main avenue of Pere-Lachaise cemetery, with the stone pavement disappearing on the horizon between two rows of centuries-old trees. The dark trunks of bare trees create a vertical rhythm that guides the eye along the path, while the silhouettes of tombs and mausoleums can be glimpsed on the sides. Pere-Lachaise was designed by architect Alexandre-Theodore Brongniart as an English garden, with winding paths and manicured vegetation, to transform the visit to the cemetery into a contemplative and romantic stroll.
