The image shows the magnificent astronomical clock of Strasbourg Cathedral, a masterpiece of Renaissance engineering and art. Built between 1547 and 1574, the clock is 18 meters high and features a richly decorated structure with sculptures, paintings and automatons. The main dial indicates the hour, days of the week, months, years, zodiac signs, lunar phases and planet positions. In the foreground, the celestial globe shows the starry vault. Every day at twelve thirty, the mechanical automatons come to life in a procession that attracts hundreds of visitors. The clock represents one of the most important examples of monumental clockmaking in existence.
