The image offers a panoramic view of the famous Ponts Couverts, an ancient defensive system at the entrance to Petite France in Strasbourg. The three massive square stone towers, dating from the 13th century, were originally connected by covered wooden bridges, now replaced by uncovered walkways. The towers are reflected in the calm waters of the Ill River which here divides into several canals. In the background, the spire of the Cathedral can be glimpsed. This fortified complex protected access to the city from the river and today represents one of the most recognizable symbols of Strasbourg, included in the UNESCO heritage together with the entire Grande Ile.
