The perimeter of Buchenwald concentration camp seen through the barbed wire fence that was once electrified. In the background, camp buildings can be seen, including the crematorium with its chimney, and one of the watchtowers from which the SS guarded prisoners. The gravel ground along the fence was the "death zone": anyone who approached it was shot without warning.
