The photograph portrays one of the most iconic elements of Matala beach: the mural with the inscription "Today is life, tomorrow never comes", manifesto of the hippy philosophy that in the 1960s and 1970s made this fishing village famous on the southern coast of Crete. The graffiti decorates the wall of a beach bar, built with salvaged materials and straw coverings reminiscent of the bohemian atmosphere of that era. In the background, the caves carved into the limestone rock of the cliff can be glimpsed, which were inhabited by an international community of hippies, reportedly including Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. The beach, with bathers enjoying the sun, still maintains today that relaxed and alternative atmosphere that made it famous.
