The Sella Group is a Dolomite mountain massif located between Val Gardena and Val Badia. The image, taken from the Col Raiser plateau in Santa Cristina, shows the northern slope of the massif, where the vertical walls of the Meisules mark the boundary of the carbonate platform. The rock formation dates back to the Triassic period and features the horizontal stratification typical of Principal Dolomite. The geographical context is that of the UNESCO World Heritage protected area, characterized by scree deposits at the base of the buttresses and sparse coniferous vegetation that thins out with increasing altitude.
