The image portrays Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the heart of Castro Urdiales old town. On the left stands the town hall, a medieval stone building with a mighty crenellated tower reminiscent of defensive architecture of the period. The facade features an arched portico on the ground floor, windows with stone frames on the upper floors, and a clock on the tower. Institutional flags and flower boxes decorate the facade. The rest of the square is bordered by buildings typical of Cantabrian architecture, with white facades, dark wooden balconies, and commercial arcades on the ground floor. Some inhabitants animate the scene: people sitting on benches, children playing, a man walking his dog. The cast iron lampposts and stone paving give the square an atmosphere of times past. This square is the venue for the main city celebrations.
