The daytime photograph of the Metropolis Building highlights the architectural details that make this palace one of the most photographed in Madrid. The white stone facade, articulated on multiple levels with Corinthian columns, balconies and sculptural decorations, culminates in the characteristic black slate dome topped by the gilded statue of the Winged Victory. Located at the corner of Gran Via and Calle de Alcala, the building was commissioned by the insurance company La Union y el Fenix and purchased in 1972 by the Metropolis group which gave it its current name. The intense blue sky typical of Madrid serves as a backdrop to this icon of Spanish Art Nouveau architecture.
